Pancakes, Arts & Crafts this Saturday
The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos is hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 5th at the Betty Ehart Senior Center from 7 – 11 am. Stop by for a delicious breakfast of eggs, sausage and pancakes before heading over to the lawn at Fuller Lodge for the Los Alamos Arts Council’s Arts and Crafts Fair.
The Los Alamos Arts Council has presented arts and crafts fairs in Los Alamos since 1967. The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos was founded in January 1948. It is the oldest service organization in Los Alamos.

David Mutschlecner Reads From and Signs Enigma and Light

David Mutschlecner will read from and sign his new book of poetry, Enigma and Light, at Ruby K’s Bagel Café on Thursday, May 3, at 6. Mesa Public Library to Host Display of Historic J. Robert Oppenheimer Photographs
MESA PUBLIC LIBRARY News
The J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee (JROMC) will present an exhibit of historic photos entitled “J. Robert Oppenheimer: Photographs From His Life: 1904 – 1967” at the Mesa Public Library Gallery, 2400 Central Ave. from May 2 to May 30. The public is encouraged to visit the exhibit.
An opening reception will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. May 3, at the Mesa Public Library Gallery upstairs. Refreshments will be served and members of the JROMC will be on hand to answer questions.

Santa Fe Poet Laureate’s ‘Odes and Offerings’ Pairs Poetry with Visual Art

Joan Logghe brings her two-year stint as Santa Fe Poet Laureate to a close with a very special exhibition, “Odes and Offerings,” at the Santa Fe Community Gallery.
Local artists were paired with local poets and the artists chose part of the text of the poem to include in their piece.
All the pieces were created specifically for this show.
Thirty-six works of art and 36 poems are included.

On Thursday, the library will screen writer/director Kar Wei Wong’s “Chungking Express,” a nineties movie that feels like a nineties movie. Los Alamos Community Winds will present “Cinco de Mayo – Celebrating a Century of the Music and Dance of Mexico and New Mexico,” at 7 p.m., Saturday May 5, at Crossroads Bible Church.
Los Nños de Santa Fe will perform traditional Mexican dances, directed and choreographed by Antonina Valdez Romp, on three pieces (Danzón no. 2 by Arturo Marquez, Huapango by José Pablo Moncayo, and La Bamba de Vera Cruz by Terig Tucci).

Beautiful music was wafting from the band room at Los Alamos High School as the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra (LASO) rehearsed for their Spring Concert, but a passerby may not have recognized the melodies.
LASO will perform “Polonaise” by Antonin Dvorak.
