Local Doctor Aided Troop Withdrawal from Iraq

Dr. Paul Daly, MD, spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos during a recent lunch meeting about his military experiences in Iraq.

Daly lives in White Rock and is a colonel in the Army Reserve. He returned in late December from his fourth mobilization.

During this deployment, Daly was assigned to the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) Brigade as its command surgeon.

The 310th ESC is based out of Indianapolis, Ind., but draws soldiers from several neighboring states.

Waterman’s Wild Ride Off Main Hill Road

The date was Dec. 30, 1968. Roger Waterman was driving his good friend, Mike Benziger, down the main hill road, heading to Benziger’s home in Santa Fe, after both had been playing basketball in Los Alamos. 

Waterman was driving his large and powerful 1959 Pontiac Starchief. He had driven the Starchief 25 times on cross-county trips to and from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., where he was a senior classman.

Coop Market Launched Inagural Bike Swap Sunday

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market hosted its inagural Bike Swap Sunday to provide the opportunity for bicycle enthusiasts to sell and buy quality used and new bicycles, parts and accessories.

The Los Alamos Singletrack Association (LASA), an International Mountain Biking Association affiliated club sponsored the event.

A portion of each sale (10 percent) went to LASA.

LASA President Scott Weiss said the proceeds will be used to work with Pajarito Ski Hill to build bike trails at Pajarito.

This fire is now visible from Los Alamos.

Below is fire information regarding the Colorado Peak Fire that was discovered today. The fire is located in the Caja del Rio on the Santa Fe National Forest between Cochiti and Santa Fe.

Today residents from north of Albuquerque to Santa Fe will see smoke. Fuels on the ground are dry due to the lack of moisture and are creating a fair amount of smoke. The Colorado Peak Fire is at 50 acres and moving north. Firefighters and a helotanker are entroute.
