NMDCA News:
In honor of Women’s History Month this month, Northern Río Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) offers a hands-on workshop that remembers the women who carried seeds from pueblo to village, and farm to ranch.
Learn to plant the same medicinal herbs used by generations of healers and families in Northern New Mexico in a hands-on workshop hosted by Northern Río Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 21, at Los Luceros Historic Site.
In this workshop, participants will learn about the cultural importance of remedios, or herbal remedies, as well as seed saving, seasonal growing cycles, and the practical steps needed to start a small home or community healing garden.
Learn about traditional herbal plants such as yerba buena, manzanilla, and lavender, as well as their uses, harvesting methods, and stories handed down through time. Each participant will take home planted seeds and a simple guide for tending their plants throughout the year. The workshop is $50 per person, and proceeds benefit Los Luceros Historic Site.
