SANTA FE – The Office of Archaeological Studies (OAS) has announce the appointment of Ziggy Prothro as the new Instructional Coordinator. Prothro brings a wealth of experience in anthropology and archaeology, along with a strong passion for education and public outreach, making her an invaluable addition to the team.

Prothro’s academic background is distinguished by a master’s degree in anthropology and applied archaeology from Eastern New Mexico University, where she focused her research on the intersection of archaeology and education. Her master’s thesis, titled “Archaeology in Education: Public Outreach for Archaeological Awareness and Educational Enrichment”, reflects her dedication to integrating archaeological knowledge into educational frameworks, a mission that aligns perfectly with the goals of OAS.

In addition to her graduate work, Prothro holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology with a minor in archaeology from the University of Texas, Austin, and an associate’s degree in anthropology from Austin Community College. Her academic excellence has been recognized with honors, including being named to the National Dean’s List, the President’s Honor Roll and Phi Theta Kappa.

Prothro has expressed her enthusiasm about joining OAS, stating, “Working at OAS has been an ambition of mine for many years. I am excited to contribute to the team and to help further the organization’s goals in public education and archaeological outreach.”

Their mission is to identify, interpret, and share information about prehistoric and historic sites across the state. The office serves state agencies and private organizations that need archaeological studies performed as part of their development projects.
