DAVID KEITH HOLMES Oct. 27, 1962 – April 24, 2025
David Holmes ended his journey on this earth with his family by his side after a hard-fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). David was 62 years young. David was born to Everett and Merlyn Holmes in Kearny, NJ. His family moved out west to New Mexico in 1966 when he was 4 years old.
David graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1980 and went on to get his bachelor’s degree in Finance from New Mexico State University. He came back to Los Alamos and landed his first job as an officer at Bank of Los Alamos. He later moved on to work for the Los Alamos National Laboratory where he spent the next 30+ years.
While there, David completed his MBA from University of New Mexico. He also went on to attain a master’s certificate from George Washington University in Project Management. David always considered himself lucky that he loved his work and forever treasured the friendships that he made there.
As a young boy, David enjoyed all kinds of sports and activities; Boy Scouts, Little League, YAFL, swimming, marching band, and any pick-up game of basketball, football, baseball or any other antics he and his friends could cook up.
He continued his love of sports later with golf, softball, basketball, and spring training in Arizona. David was also able to catch some NFL games in Arizona, Colorado, and Minnesota (Go Vikings!). He was also known to be watching whatever sports he could find on TV.
While working at the bank, he met his one and only love, Mary Lou. They soon became inseparable and were married 7 years later. Together they enjoyed raising two amazing kids, traveling, golfing, and softball. They especially loved sharing their time together with friends and family. They celebrated their 30th anniversary last year.
David remained in White Rock until eventually settling in Rio Rancho full time in 2020. David had an easy outgoing personality and made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He sincerely cherished every visit after his disease forced his move to an assisted living then a nursing facility.
David is pre-deceased by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou, daughter Lori Ellard (Shane) and son Stuart Stein (Erin). His grandchildren Kayden, William, Samantha, Paul, Wesley, Charlotte, and Luke. He is also survived by his sister Lisa Wheeler (Jon) and their two children Danny and Sheryl, brother Larry Holmes, and Auntie Jeannette Vreeland. David is also survived by Mary Lou’s brothers and sisters and their spouses and children.
He will be missed by so many. His love will live on in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., May 18 at Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos.
