JOHN R. ASBRIDGE Aug. 26, 1928 – Sept. 28, 2024
John Robert “Jack” Asbridge, 96, of Castle Pines, Colorado passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024.
Born on August 26, 1928, in Lakeside, Montana, Jack was the beloved son of the late Vern and Emma Asbridge.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marilyn, their five children, Debbie, Karen, Mary, Gary, and Joe, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
After graduating from high school in Kalispell, Montana, in 1946, Jack joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served for three years, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
After his tour of duty, he attended Montana State College and then Lehigh University, earning a PhD. in Physics. Jack and his young family moved to New Mexico where he worked at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (now Los Alamos National Laboratory) from May 1959 until the end of September 1991, over 32 years.
Jack’s early life in Lakeside was lived close to the land – his family grew and raised most of their own food, supplanted by hunting and fishing. Jack’s lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and gardening arose from these early days. A proficient carpenter/handyman, Jack built much of the house in Los Alamos that he, Marilyn, and their children called home. After his retirement in 1991, he built a log home near Chama, New Mexico, doing much of the work himself. Later in life Jack took up painting and writing.
In every role that he played—be it as a husband, father, grandfather, or friend—Jack was kind, respectful, and dedicated. His humor, warmth, and genuine love for those around him made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege to know him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Legacy Village senior living community in Castle Pines, Colorado on November 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Jack will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jack’s name to one of the following organizations: • Dementia Society of America (https://dementiasociety.org) • Castle Rock Senior Center (https://msbpay.com/CastleRockSupportTheCenterWEB/).
