SUSAN ELIZABETH WIIG June 7, 1940 – June 13, 2025

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, and friend, Susan Wiig. Susie, as she was known to many, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 13, with her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends by her side.

Susie was happiest when surrounded by her family. To her great delight, her family and friends were able to celebrate her 85th birthday with her this year.

She was born in Lansing, Michigan, to William and Ethel Langham. She and her brother Billy helped their mother and father run a small motel. After high school, she attended Michigan State University where she studied chemistry. She moved to Los Alamos in 1965 and spent the rest of her life raising her family here. When her children had grown older, she turned her academic sights to computer science and worked as a computer programmer for several years.

Her true passion was art. She was an accomplished artist, completing oil paintings when she was just a child. She used many mediums to produce her artwork throughout the years: pencil, charcoal, and pastels for her drawings, oil, acrylic, and watercolor for her many paintings. She delighted her friends and family with her beautiful works. However, most of her time was spent as a first-rate mom to her children and their friends. She was kind and generous, loving and patient, and always there. To her husband, she was his sweetheart. To us all, she is deeply missed. Susan was happiest when surrounded by her family.

Susan is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gary Wiig, children Jennifer (Brian) Lynch of Los Alamos, Julie Chase of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Peter (Diana) Kent of Albuquerque, as well as her cherished grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Billy, and her daughter who died too early, Cynthia Susan Kent.

A memorial for Susan will be held at a later date.
