RUBY KNIGHT Nov. 10, 1940 – Oct. 21, 2024
Ruby Knight, 83, of Los Alamos, NM, surrounded by her family, passed away on October 21, 2024, in her home. She was born on November 10, 1940, in Chimayo, New Mexico, from Andrita Martinez.
Ruby was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved all her family dearly. She enjoyed spending her time shopping, gambling at the casino and making memories with her family. Ruby had a special gift with children and spent many years babysitting out of her home. Her home was “home” to all whom she cared for.
Ruby is a testament to how strong a woman can be. She battled breast cancer and stayed in remission. She tragically lost her beloved son, Jerry and pushed through the heartache. Ruby also lived 9 years after losing her husband, Harold, leaving her widowed.
Ruby’s passion in life was being active in raising her children and grandchildren. The love Ruby shared was endless, one-of-a-kind, something truly special and sacred.
She was preceded in death by her mother Andrita Martinez, grandparents who raised her Enemecio and Celsea Martinez, her son Jerry Knight, the love of her life Harold Knight, beloved aunts Mary and Aurelia Johnson.
She is survived by her sons Chris Knight and wife Kelly Knight, Steven Knight and wife Meredith Knight, granddaughters Ashley, Mariah, Kendra, Jill, and Felicia Knight, grandsons Derrick, Mitchell, Maverick, Miles, John, Leo, and Jerome Knight, great-grandchildren Mililani, Baiya, Briana, Alexis, great-great grandchildren Ariana and Jeremiah, her brother Carlos Vasquez of Rio Rancho and sister Linda Drury of Canton, Ohio. She was also survived by many great friends and other relatives.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 1, 2024, at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in Española, NM at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM. Burial will follow at Guaje Pines in Los Alamos, NM and reception to follow burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall in Los Alamos, NM.
